Todays view from the mrbnb office sees that the NS is busy at work on the upgrade of the Overvecht station. All the old platform furniture is being replaced with better shelter and seating for passengers. The station is located at the back of mrbnb, and it only takes about 90 seconds to reach the station! From there, it is only a 4 minute train ride to the brand new Utrecht Centraal station.
There are 8 trains per hr to the centre, so you are never left waiting for long!
Passengers using Overvecht railway station can expect a quicker than normal journey after having a ‘transfer accelerator’ installed – otherwise known as a big children’s slide.
Grown men have been spotted smiling gleefully as they travel down it and mature women can be seen laughing like school girls as they descend.
The added feature is probably more suited to a water park or a kid’s playground but that hasn’t stopped Utrecht-based firm HIK Ontwerpers from adding it to the renovation of the Overvecht railway station.
The designers explained the slide is a gift to the rail commuters and hope it will create a playful urban area that could generate positive energy.
It is yet to be seen if a queue will form during rush hour, which – ironically enough – would mean the journey may take longer.
And let’s hope they also have disability access and this isn’t a slightly misguided attempt to kill two birds with one stone.
